Tips and Tricks

SSL

If you need to measure pages secured with SSL too, it is enough to adjust the measurement code so that it uses this protocol (https://). Or you can generate and use a new code which already uses SSL.

XML output

Traffic data can now also be obtained in XML format. It works on a similar principle as the Infopanel, i.e. it does not perform its own measurement — some regular measurement code still needs to be used. The available data are the same as for the larger version of the panel: total traffic, today, per week, overall rank and rank in category, and the number of users online. The address for calling is:

https://toplist.eu/images/counter.asp?a=xml&id=PAGE_ID

Note: just a reminder that if you use this way to display traffic directly on the page, the page's own current display will not be counted in it — it is only recorded when the measurement code loads.

Security code — blocking measurement on foreign pages

It can happen that you find out (e.g. in the statistics of measured pages) that your measurement code is placed on someone else's pages. The easiest solution is to talk to the author of those pages so that they fix their mistake. If that is not possible, measurement can be prevented by defining a Security code in the TOPlist settings (a number in the range 1 to 200) and adding a seed parameter with this value to the measurement code. From then on, only code containing this value will be measured. The value can be changed freely; it only has to be the same in the settings and in the measurement code. The function can be switched off by setting the Security code to zero.
